Esoteric Acupuncture.

Using acupuncture to open and activate the main chakras or energy centres is still little known or even available in the UK at the moment yet it is a strikingly potent way of working with these centres, waking them up and enabling their potential to manifest within our selves and our lives.

This type of acupuncture is known as Esoteric Acupuncture. It is a form of acupuncture created by Mikio Sankey and uses patterns of points to access different aspects of 'spiritual energy'. Initially the patterns focus on activating the chakras but other patterns focus on accessing very different levels of perception and consciousness. Because this is so little known in the UK I hope this page will serve as a useful overview of what this type of treatment provides.

Chakras?

I'll be clear upfront, because there is an enormous amount of cultural baggage and 'new-age' accretions that have gathered around this word. In Myesis Acupuncture, 'chakras' are simply acupuncture points. Important ones absolutely. Highly connected ones: indeed. Points that can have a wide range of effects on our perception, our body and our energy. But they are worked with as part of a pattern of points, not as something separate or 'other' but as an integrated part of the body of work that is Acupuncture.

How are they used?

Again, here is another difference to commonly accepted and unquestioned 'wisdom' which it might be useful to consider before a treatment as this might be different to common expectations. Instead of beginning with the base centre, we begin with the Crown Chakra and work downwards to the the Base Chakra. Yes, this is opposite to what (traditionally) Indian yogic books might prescribe and how most other newer traditions present. But there is a genuine basis for this difference.

This is profound and deep work. These points (chakras) can have far-reaching effects and are absolutely to be treated with respect. Based on experience I have found that we in the West generally benefit from beginning with the most balanced spiritual/psychological energy we can access and then use that as the orientation point as we move downwards through our body. If we begin with the root energy centre and move upwards, all sorts of issues can arise which might then be more difficult to integrate and deal with, if we have not already anchored a reference to anything 'higher'. This is where all of the stories about the 'dangers' of Kundalini come from. Kundalini rising is a symptom, not a cause of opening. We don't start by chasing symptoms; we start with what is most balanced and proceed from there.

Working with the Chakra Patterns.

The Chakras are best taken as multi-layered metaphors. On an acupuncture level they represent important energy centres within us. They are the focus for multiple types of meridian energies, psychological issues, habits, physical issues, emotional behaviours and blocks as well as different let's say 'psychic' types of perception. In my experience, using patterns of acupuncture points to activate and work with these energy centres is a profound and deeply healing and transformative process and powerful in a way that no other modality I have come across is. The effects are subtle but strong, as are most inner changes.

What do these treatments involve?

Crown Chakra Points
The chakra or energy centre treatments use a pattern of points placed around each of the traditional chakra areas. The Crown Chakra points are around the top of the head, as seen in the image. The 'Third Eye Chakra' points are around the 'Third Eye' area. All of the others use energy points along the back of the body until the Base Chakra which uses points on the sacrum.

The acupuncture points in each pattern are needled in turn to build a structure for the specific energy for each centre and are left in for anything from 30 to 90 minutes depending on your preference and how the treatment goes.

What happens?

What you experience will depend on what inner work you are currently doing, what you have done and how used you are to other states of consciousness. A deep sleepfulness is a common experience. This happens when the energy of the pattern goes beyond what we can consciously process. This subsides with more experience of having these treatment patterns.

Staying awake can lead to profound insights, removal of energetic blocks, shifts in personality and habits. Treatment of these energy centres seems to draw in a profound and very strong activation energy. If we are ready, we can pick this up and run with it and it will keep up with us as far as we can take it. If we are not ready, it opens the door and it is for us to take the step to walk through it.

If a person is not doing any inner work at all then the session will likely become a memory of a pleasant experience but without any profound effects because nothing is going to be forced onto us; Transformative Acupuncture will open the door for us and support us but it is still for us to do the walking.

Where are the patterns from?

The use of patterns of points to work with chakra energy centres is from the work by Mikio Sankey and his Esoteric Acupuncture. You can ready more about his work here: www.esotericacupuncture.com While his work is now well known in the USA and Australia, in the UK it remains less well known and available.

I would welcome you to get in touch for an informal conversation if this sparks an interest and to come for a few treatments if it feels right for you. Certainly for anyone practicing Meditation, Yoga, Qi Gong, Tai Chi or any kind of spiritual practice, I believe that you will find that Transformative Acupuncture treatments will provide a deep support for and transformation of your practice.
